Web hosting is an online service that enables a person or a company to publish a site or web application on the Internet.



 With the increasing popularity of static site generators, a lot of services have come up allowing you to host static website for free. So, in this post I want to share with my audience some of the best free static web hosting on the internet. 


1. Github Pages

GitHub is a trusted resource for hosting and reviewing code, managing projects, and building software for both individuals and Fortune 500 organizations. The company’s static hosting service, GitHub Pages, takes code straight from a GitHub repository, optionally runs the files through a build process, and publishes a website. Configuration is simple, and updates are a simple edit and push away.

2. Netlify

Netlify is a web developer platform.It  offers hosting and serverless backend services for web application and static websites.It provides both free and paid plans.

3. Gitlab

Similar to GitHub, GitLab also provides hosting for static websites directly from GitLab.com hosted repositories and lets you map them to custom domains. The aditional advantage here is that you can have unlimited private respositories for free if you choose GitLab.com.

4. Firebase


Firebase, now acquired by Google, offers a production-grade web content hosting for web apps and static content. With Firebase hosting, you can host a static website or web-app as well as make use of their real-time database and file storage in the free plan.

5. App Engine
Another place where you can host a static website for free is App engine. App engine supports many programming languages including PHP, Go, Java, however, you only need to write an app.yaml configuration file if you are just hosting static content.

6. Amazon S3

Another powerful name on our list is Amazon Web Services on our list. It is a little bit complicated for first time users but the company provides a good guide which would certainly help you through.

7. Vercel

Vercel is a cloud platform for websites and serverless APIs, that you can use to deploy your Gatsby projects to your personal domain.

8. Forge


Another on our list is Forge.


Forge takes publishing beyond GitHub or the command line interface by including built-in Dropbox compatibility.

9. Surge


Surge offers a web publishing platform with an easy to use CLI. Just install surge npm module and run surge command inside your web project folder to get it published. Surge offers free custom domain support along with basic SSL support.

10. Updog


UpDog simplifies web-hosting for those who don’t want to install software or tools for publishing websites, rather just want to get them hosted from their Dropbox or Google Drive account.The free plan offers an unlimited file transfer and storage for your website which is connected via Dropbox or Google Drive. The free plan limits you to just 1 site at the root folder of your Dropbox or Google Drive account.

11. Drive to Web





Drive to web is similar to Updog but offers OneDrive integration in addition to Google Drive, and does not impose an access limit.
